Admissions Guidelines
Enrollment in St. John
Villa Academy HS is open to single girls who have graduated from
elementary school and who desire to pursue a secondary level,
college-preparatory education within the Roman Catholic tradition.
Application to Villa indicates on the part of the student and her
family an acceptance of the obligations to explore one's personal
religious commitment, to complete the required scholastic program
and to support the goals, policies and financial programs of the
school.
Admissions
requirements for the 9th Grade:
-
Since Villa is an
extension of the teaching ministry of the Catholic Church,
preference is given to the Catholic student.
Approximately 150 freshmen are admitted each year.
-
Each applicant
must achieve satisfactory scores on the TACHS. It is the
policy that in each entrance class 5 approximately 60% of the
students are chosen from the honors to the above-average
category. They are provided with advanced course work
that challenges their high scholastic ability. The other
40% are chosen from a wide range of average students.
They are provided with a four-year program of standard
college-prep classes.
-
After acceptance
on the basis of above, a recommendation is asked of the
student's 8th grade teacher or guidance counselor in order to
ascertain her general attitude towards study and her ability
to do high schoolwork. Acceptance is conditional upon
satisfactory completion of elementary school graduation
requirements. Failure to do so will result in a
re-evaluation of a student's acceptance to Villa.
-
The school will
consider application from a student whose background
varies from the usual pattern but who shows evidence of
genuine intellectual ability and a sincere interest in
Catholic education.
-
When a student
from another religious denomination is enrolled, it is
required that she attend the regularly scheduled religious
studies courses and the traditional school worship services.
Admission
requirement to 10th 11th or 12th grades:
-
Acceptance into
the sophomore and junior year at Villa depends on the
classroom space available both in the applicable grade and
scholastic program. Admission criteria include:
a)
that the girl is currently following a program of studies
which can be adapted to
Villa's diploma requirements;
b) that she has a
good record in her present school for conduct, effort and
attendance;
c) that she is
recommended favorably by her current school.
-
New enrollment is
not considered for senior year unless the transfer request is
a result of a significant change in residence or other serious
extenuating circumstance.
